How Invisalign® Works

Invisalign® is an almost ‘invisible’ aligner that correctly aligns your teeth. They’re also referred to as clear aligners and have grown in popularity in the past decades as an option for straightening or realigning teeth defects.

Clear aligners are molded from computer-generated images and impressions taken from your dental alignment. Unlike conventional metal braces, you get transparent and removable aligners that are comfortable for your mouth.

While traditional braces use wires to ‘’pull’’ your teeth into alignment, Invisalign® corrects misaligned teeth using a series of trays that force your teeth into a new and improved position.

Here’s a brief look at how Invisalign® treatment works.

How Does Invisalign® Straighten Teeth?

Invisalign® gently but steadily pushes teeth to the preferred position. Although the process is not painful, you may encounter slight discomfort. The discomfort shouldn’t worry you because it signifies the aligners are working.

You’re required to wear aligners for 20-22 hours per day.

Invisalign® treatment also takes a shorter duration than other orthodontic treatment plans. A mild misalignment issue takes an average of 6-12 months, with a severe case requiring up to 18 months.

The Invisalign® Process

Here are the typical steps of Invisalign® treatment:

  • Consultation: A dentist will invite you for a face-to-face discussion to understand your teeth alignment defect. Then, they will explain the Invisalign® process and the costs. It’s also a chance to ask questions to help you make an informed choice.
  • Imaging: If you like the treatment, the doctor will order an X-ray image. The X-ray involves several shots from different angles in your mouth, teeth, and face to create a detailed picture of your teeth alignment issue. The doctor may request a lateral cephalometric x-ray to establish an elaborate relationship between your jaw and cheekbone.
  • Preparation and First Fitting: During the fitting stage, the dentist will review the trays and help you to try them out. The first fitting feels strange in the mouth. They should also be tight but not painful since they’re designed strong enough to kick-start the realignment process.
  • Changing the Clear Aligners: Your dentist will issue you a series of customized plastic aligners. You’re also expected to change them after one or two weeks. Each aligner is designed as the next “step” in moving your teeth toward the desired position.

Try Crystal Dental Invisalign® Service

Teeth alignment procedures are lengthy — from a minimum of 6 months up to 2 years. If you opt for metal braces, the pain and appearance may discourage you from completing the process.

Fortunately, you can achieve better results using comfortable and removable clear aligners.
